For his character Arun in Dhobi Ghat, actor-producer Aamir Khan found it more difficult to shoot in Masjid Bunder, Mumbai than any other normal shootings. For, one it was a very busy place and second, they had to shoot for three weeks in a chawl there for the room scenes.
Guess what Aamir did to avoid attract attention from the people in the area? He actually went to that chawls room (which was on fourth floor) early morning 3-4 clock, so that no one sees him going there. Then for those three weeks, without anyones knowledge, he stayed there and finished shooting his part!
As a result, he was literally living and working there as well. Once the shooting wraps up, the actor used to sleep in the room and wake up next day when the team comes to shoot again! In fact, none of the neighbours or locals knew that Aamir is staying in that building.
Kiran revealed that Aamir had everything moved up into that room books, Aruns clothes, props it was like moving into a new house. Aamir pretty much made it as his own home. Doing that, he didnt have to travel for shooting . He kind of really enjoyed that feeling of waking up in bed of Arun, sleeping in Aruns room. She said that he was Arun for three weeks .
To tell you about the room, it was a very large one with an attached bathroom. And surprisingly, Aamir revealed that, he had Ghajini and 3 Idiots marketing meetings and other discussions in this bathroom, when shooting was going on!
Only towards end of the shooting schedule people gradually came to know that Aamir is staying in the building. And when the neighbours knew they turned out to be very cooperative and said that they will maintain silence and privacy. Their only request was that Aamir had to come to their homes before leaving .. In the process, the star had to visit nearly 40 houses in the building ..
